The question on the mind of many locals in the past 2 weeks has been  ‘What happened to Fresh Café in Katoomba?’

Café owner and manager Sarah Vassallo assures lovers of good food and great coffee that there is no need to worry. Fresh café has had a revamp – and reopened its doors as the aptly named ‘Clean Slate’ with the same friendly chef, barista and wait-staff. A little bit of Melbourne has arrived on the mountains café scene.

A freshen up of layout and interiors has transformed the ambience of the café and improved the ease of which customers can move around and enjoy the space.  Industrial lighting and seating, teamed with deep blue walls has created a sense of stepping into a funky haven on a cold winter’s day.

A lounge area by the window creates space for those wishing to relax and enjoy watching the colourful passers by, or take the time to connect with friends.

One of the main changes despite looks would be the new brew – Blue Moose Mountain Coffee – roasted locally in the Blue Mountains. The barista knows her coffee and works well with the new beans. 250gm bags of beans are available for purchase to make your own at home.

Customers can stop by for a quick caffeine hit and snack – a simple chocolate biscuit, or the Orange and Poppy seed muffins, drizzled with orange syrup - a local favourite. Or settle in for a hearty meal – the big brekkie for bacon lovers or a tasty vegetarian option – with fluffy scrambled eggs said by one fan to be ‘the best in the mountains’.

Having small children of their own, owners Sarah and Gary created a Kid’s Menu of foods that have been tried and tested on their own little ones, and have activity kits on hand included with orders on the Kid’s Menu, or $1 on their own.

Open 7 days a week, Clean Slate Café would be a great spot to stop and refuel.
