Although the Blue Mountains are vast and green, with valleys stretching as far as the eye can see, you needn’t stray far from your accommodation for great coffee and to discover a treasure or two to take home.

Regardless of whether you are staying in one of our cottages in Wentworth Falls, Leura or Katoomba, a short drive takes you to the lovely mountain village of Blackheath. Nestled between cliffs and the highway, it’s hard to go past.

Finding a good coffee isn’t hard – just follow your nose to one of the popular café’s along the main strip. Anonymous café, one of Blackheath’s newest arrivals bustles with coffee aficionados, locals meeting for a catch up, and the likes of Jenny Kee and other renowned artists grabbing their daily caffeine fix and a breakfast burrito.

It’s a short walk to Virgin Walls - the permanent pop up space playing host to an array of mini art exhibitions, jewellery stores, clothing shops, and other projects by the broader Blue Mountains community and businesses.

The latest addition to the main street is ‘This Little Piggy Wiggy' bakery and delicatessen. A great spot to stock up on delights and nibblies to go with a wine with a view later on that afternoon.

The corner shop, aptly named - The Veggie Patch - with its fruit and veg is a perfect spot to stop and grab your fresh food and greens, before you head over to The Victory Theatre Antique Centre and Cafe.

With over 50,000 items ranging from vintage cut glass, jewellery and retro delights, stylists travel up from Sydney to source their quirky and affordable antiques and curios to brighten up photos shoots down in the city from this amazing collection under the 1 roof.

Blackheath is also known for it’s creative community, who have now banded together to give visitors an easy and accessible location for buying gifts for loved ones, and to showcase their creations. The Blackheath Hub is bursting with creative and wonderful art and crafts all made in the Blue Mountains.

Across the road is the Toy and Hobby Shop which may interest children of all ages. On your way back up the road stop in at the Blackheath Gallery. It may be compact but its artworks are exciting.

Whether you crochet, knit or neither, the House of Wool is a feast of colour and texture from floor to ceiling. With soft and supple skeins of yarn from well-known brands to hand-dyed wools from small creatives based in the Blue Mountains, it is calming to enter the doors and see the delicately produced displays and run your hands over the soft woollen fibres and soak in their colour.

Blackheath is known also for its stunning lookouts, challenging and inspiring bushwalks and tracks, and for the wonderful rhododendron gardens. With it’s proximity to the Megalong Valley which is a great place for horse-riding, Blackheath is definitely worth committing a day trip to in your itinerary.
